"I have know Ms. Williams for a little over 7 months. My son, Owen, started piano lessons September 2017. Owen is 7 and in first grade. The progress Owen has made during his 7 months with Ms. Williams has far exceeded my expectations. Ms. Williams works with each student and parent to get the most out of each lesson and practice session. My son continues to grow as a piano player and has also gained more confidence in himself. I know he loves piano because he freely walks over to the piano and plays it. He also voluntarily enjoys playing for others.
Ms. Williams is big on technique and expression. I myself was classically trained on piano for 9 years, and I feel like I have an even greater appreciation and understanding of technique and expression watching and helping my son. What didn't make sense to me as kid has finally clicked! Ms. Williams' love of piano and kids is paramount. Rather than always use a lesson book, she incorporates the Suzuki method into Owen's training. She uses the traditional approach of music and theory combined with the training of the ear. Watching Owen grow and be able to read music, play dynamically, memorize music, play with an accompaniment, and learn to play through hearing has been extremely gratifying. She is able to customize songs and lessons to Owen's skill level and provide challenges to keep him interested. By allowing him to help chose his pieces, he has become part of the teaching process and has more motivation to practice.
There is strong sense of compassion and understanding that has developed with Owen and Ms. Williams. Ms. Williams would smile with delight at Owen's accomplishments and praise Owen's dynamics and own interpretation of each piece. Ms. Williams works hard with all her students to achieve success at their individual levels. She encourages her students to bring their own interpretation and character to their music. This is evident in her private recitals as well as play-a-thens. Ms. Williams makes learning to play fun and an outlet for self-expression.
Ms. Williams has a connection to her students that is so heartfelt. She sees each child's strengths and motivates them to overcome areas of weakness. She is very positive and has molded many student to be motivated self-confident pianists. I highly recommend Ms. Williams as a piano teacher and I look forward to watching my son and other children experience her passion and love of music."
